The value of your childhood
I’m going to show you just how much your old toys and games are worth now at auction. Ever since shows like Antiques Roadshow, Flog-it, Bargain Hunt and others have filled the gaps of daytime TV, you get armchair ‘experts’ telling you that every windowless, scratched 80s Hotwheels you have left in the bottom of a box in the garage is worth thousands, and every smelly old 60s teddy-bear with only one eye and fleas is a lost gem worth ten times that.
In reality most of your old toys are worthless crap to anybody but you (sorry!). And you can pick up many of them for less than £30 in mint condition.
But, as always, there are still very valuable toys out there just waiting to be uncovered in some house clearance or loft conversion, whereupon they’ll be on ebay and sold before you can say “Don’t sell your childhood!”
The following is a selection found in one evening last week on ebay with this search criteria:-
- sold items only (so these are the actual prices somebody was willing to pay in the last 30 days)
- UK only
- sorted by highest priced first
I’ve started at just shy of £100 because as mentioned above, you can find lots of unremarkable vintage toys under that price. We’ll count down to the most expensive.
